The Writing on the Wall

The time: April, 2004
The setting: walking through the Kenmore neighborhood of Inglewood near Juanita Hill, just off Lake Washington in the Seattle area
The discussion: Jodi's latest visit with her doctor

TODD: So how'd the visit go?
JODI: My doctor thinks the weather really affects my moods. She even suggested that we consider eventually moving to a sunnier climate.
TODD: Yeah, I've been thinking that for a couple of years now.
JODI: You have!?
TODD: Yeah, I figured we'd eventually move someplace sunnier for you. I've noticed the weather affecting you more and more, seems to be getting worse each year.
JODI: I think it's worn me down.
TODD: Yeah, I agree.
JODI: Well, since we know this is in the future, I'm resolving now to live through just one more Seattle winter.
TODD: Oh you are, are you?
JODI: Yes, this time next year, we put our house on the market.
TODD: Hmm. Well, OK by me, but we have plenty to do between now and then.
JODI: I'm going to try and live the best Seattle life I can this coming year; I really do love Seattle. I will miss it. I love the water, the flowers, the downtown shopping, the restuarants, the hiking, Mt. Rainer, the floating bridges; but there's no denying that my life is on hold for eight months of the year, waiting for the clouds to lift. No matter how hard I try, I can't shake it.
TODD: That's not living.
JODI: I didn't want to admit it; I wanted to think I was above the weather affecting me so much.
TODD: Time to face reality.
